Emily loves Spray Watersports Eastbourne & Video Highlights

I first heard about my local water sports club through the fresher’s fair at uni. I couldn't resist giving windsurfing a go. I had tried it once before in Vancouver, so when I saw a bright yellow sail marking the Spray Stall, I knew I would be having some fun at uni too. From session one I was hooked! I am no pro; far from it but falling in was half the fun so together with some friends in year one I got to work on establishing a uni Windsurfing and Sailing club.

This is the story about how, we filmed some cool shots for my STA travel application. How about Windsurfing on a sunny day to catch the eye? YES please I say! Spray Water Sports Eastbourne it is then! Ok so the sea was cold as ice, but kitted out with my winter wetsuit, boots and gloves nothing was stopping me getting out on the water.

Safety boat - check. One cool friend named Donata with good balance and the ability to operate a camera - check. One brilliant looking orange sail, the big blue ocean and a touch of wind - check.

Next task – get friend into boat and keep camera dry! As Donata climbed across the breakwater into the safety boat, there was a moment when I thought the boat was getting washed up engine first on to the shingle! Game over? Not yet! Just enough wave to cover the propellor and the boat was away. Richard helped me get the kit in the water, by now the fun was long overdue. Not so, it seemed, as we had all failed to realise that there was no ‘uphaul’ (that’s for when I fall in and need to drag the sail back out the water).

After stupidly trying to pull the sail up by the mast alone, Craig (Spray instructor and health and safety guy for the day) helped get the sail in the boat and the uphaul attached. I was windsurfing on a Wednesday, the sun was shining and the sea was sparkling, and the best bits were caught on camera - mission accomplished! Thanks team Spray and Friends.

Emily loves her first blog

Hey everyone, welcome to my blog :) my name is Emily Woods, I am currently studying my third year at University of Brighton (that’s the Chelsea School Eastbourne). My course is sport and Leisure Management and I recon it’s just about the best the course in the country. So why am I trying to write a regular blog? As if I don’t have enough to do already, with graduation looming, dissertation well underway, and the second semester in full swing.

Keeping up the pace can be hard when you've got essays due, parties to attend and a future career to plan. So you can imagine my delight when my good friend and housemate Nassia Kummer recommended that I go for "STA UK Traveller Intern 2010!" “So what’s that about?” I asked. “check out the website” she said. And so I did. This is what I found.

It's the trip of a life time, but it's no easy ride. A job for this summer, which if I’m successful in getting, will require me to travel alongside one other successful applicant taking amazing photo's and film footage of everywhere we go and blogging about our experiences. Part of my application, requires me to make a video showing why I am the girl to take you around the world and inspire you to do the same. I'm looking to show you as much about me as possible in a bid to win your hearts and your votes and also get a little more practice in blogging too. I will be blogging about my journey to hopefully being one of these two lucky applicants, look out for past travel experiences, how I shot video highlights, and events I’m helping friends out with at University.
